Thanks to chip manufacturers we have now computers that are a lot smaller. They fit into our home devices and that is the area where they are used most. As security tends to make things only more complicated this was not the first priority when these devices were created.

It is always fun to watch the first examples going wrong.

When the first Internet connected BBQ lit unintendedly and Internet connected entertainment devices hidden in a bedroom drawer started to make ratting noises in the middle of the night, public attention was finally raised. Maybe you should not connect everything to the Internet and if want to do so, protection might something to consider.

So far the marriage between IoT and crypto has been troublesome.

In this talk of Mark Deiss, he will you show that your beloved IoT device is wanted by many others than only yourself and that crypto for IoT can be hard when you have limited resources.

Crypto seems also not to be the toughest problem for IoT.

Mark Deiss is a consultant of Newitera who is implementing authorization frameworks for large companies. Breaking, circumventing, tampering and social behavior when things are starting to get wrong is business as usual for him. This led to the interesting and entertaining insight on crypto for IoT.
