Stichting An Measín Dénártha (The Binary Machine) is a non-profit organization ("stichting") with as main goal, gaining and sharing knowledge about ICT.

We do this by:
- Providing low-cost Virtual Private Servers
- Giving advice and support to individuals and organisations
- Giving workshops and talks

Our platform is almost 100% based on Open Source Software. We have a HP P4500G2 LeftHand system, converted to a 2-CPU, 96GB, 2x 128G SSD, 4x5T HDD system. On that platform we run Proxmox (basically an advanced shell on top of KVM and LXC), with ZFS on Linux as local storage. That platform ought to be enough for around 80-100 VPSes and is quite easily expandable to a central storage system with multiple hypervisors.

The majority of the services we provide are Open Source and we expect to have mainly Linux and FreeBSD VPSes running on our platform. (It is allowed to run a virtual Windows server on our platform, we're agnostic in that, but we don't provide a license. That's up to the owner of the VPS.) Also, we do promote the use of Open Source Software in various ways.

We do ask money for certain services like the VPSes, (web)hosting and ICT services to organisations. As we're 100% non-profit, the money is solely used to be able to run the foundation as it has no external funds and is 100% self-supporting. We do however cooperate with a few commercial parties, both to keep the cost down and gain exposure for our organisation.

For volunteers, there are extra perks. We provide them with a free VPS to be able to do their job as a volunteer and we reserve space for VPSes and LXC's on our platform for testing / lab purposes. Those lab VPSes and containers are free of charge, as long as knowledge gained with those setups is shared with us and with the broader community.

Sharing with the broader community is key for us. We're totally open about our platform and challenges and will document as much as possible fully public, so not only to our own participants (as we're a "stichting", we don't have members but we are a community.)

Also we try to keep the workshops free of charge. (We might ask a small fee for pizza and maybe accommodation if necessary.)
